New Novella - Kinship of the Scales

by Tracy on 8/23/2009 6:15:29 AM     Category: Publicity News  Views: 108

Earlier in the year I posted on this forum about publishing new authors through the site.
I'd promised that I'd be one of the authors, and even posted up a chapter of a story I was
working on.

That story is finished.

I've just completed a novella, which will be the first in a series of books called Kinship of the Scales.
This first novella is entitled Orchids.

Orchids is a murder mystery centering around a tightly knit group of detectives and a streetwalker working
with them to solve the killings of several call girls in their city.

I'm just working on the cover art and then a proof copy can be ordered and approved. After that.... as the Mutt
says, "Read the book."

It's been a busy weekend here in Staven.

Thank you, guys....

The book should be out shortly. I've submitted the body of the book and the cover we designed, now we're just waiting for the approval on everything so I can order a proof copy!

I've gone through way too many years of my life doing everything myself, and depending on no one for anything. I'm the same way at work - I'll do it and I'll do it myself.
I have to say that partnership and cooperation are a far, far better way to go.

I was stuck yesterday for a title for the series of books - the individual novella I had a title for already but since it's a series.... well, I was completely stuck. Now, this important little detail could have delayed things indefinitely while I hemmed and hawed and tried this and tried that and banged my head against the wall... but our own Mutt stepped up to the plate the instant he saw that I was halted and he came up with a couple of truly stellar suggestions; one of which I chose enthusiastically. He was also sitting next to me while I fooled around with cover design - choosing a picture, deciding on the fonts, debating on whether or not to use an Author's Photo, or a Publisher's Logo and getting that to fit.... giving me suggestions and reminders every step of the way. I'm not sure I fully understood what partnership meant before this year. I'm really starting to now.

Thanks, Miss Georgie. You're right - we are and have been incredibly blessed to have found complimentary creative energy to share in this world.
The partnership extends far beyond just the two of us, and that's what makes things really interesting.
Right now Rachel is in the barn and she's working hard on a couple of different things. This week she's not only working on the quilting and the bags, but she's proof-reading Marty's sections of Convoking Hell, and mine as well, and giving thought as to the blending of the stories. Who knows, she might even take a stab at cover design for this book as well! She's also working on the screenplay for Expurgation AND her own video project which I won't give away details of here myself!

Mutt calls it the Brain Trust. I like that term. A lot.

Yes I am working on several things at the moment.  Today I will concentrate on Convoking and blending  the two autobiographical pieces. The trick will be not to confuse the reader as to who the person speaking is.  Approaching it as a screenplay will achieve that goal as well as set the stage for the actual screenplay if there is a need.
The bags I am working on are crazy quilt evening bags which if all goes as planed will be sold in boutiques and specialty shops.  They all will be one of a kind in their patchwork and embleshments.  Made from recycled materials(silk ties and blouses) that I get at resale shops and tag sales.  Once I have some made and ready to sell to these shops I will be sure to post some pictures here for you to see.
There are art quilts to be constructed.  The designs for these things come into my head and form a picture which will haunt me untill the quilt is made.  The sewing will become much easier once I have a sewing room set up in Staven.  And yes if the image presents itself to me I will quilt another book cover.
I cannot say much about my video project at the moment.  I can say that I would be interviewing someone I used to play with as a young child.  The rest is dependent on the Warden.
I love this barn. I have always liked camping and I have lived in rooming houses (shared bathroom) the barn is a combination of the two.  I will be happy to be in a permanent home in a few weeks, but I will miss this barn.

Take Care
Rachel
